A big deadline for a work project is looming but instead of locking in and finally completing it, you find yourself constantly checking your phone, rearranging the pens on your desk, and getting up for every five minutes.
Whether it’s finish that big work project, lock in on your next artistic masterpiece, or stay in the moment at yoga class, it can be hard to find your inner focus, and you’re not alone. In fact, approximately
50% of American workers report only being able to work for 15 minutes straight without becoming distracted, and that holds particularly true for people who naturally may be more prone to distraction.
.
So we could all use some help staying focused on the tasks we truly want to accomplish most, and the good news is that focus is something that can be improved through a mix of internal and external factors. As is the case with any area of wellness, increasing your ability to focus will be the result of a number of lifestyle choices, not any one tip, strategy or tool - here are some of our favorites.
Reduce Multitasking -
A 2009 Stanford study demonstrated that, despite what we’re so often told, people who identify as multi-taskers, “do not pay attention, control their memory or switch from one job to another as well as those who prefer to complete one task at a time.”
While it’s not always possible - sometimes you just do have to answer that email on your phone while walking to another meeting - shutting off all other tasks and distractions will go a long way towards enabling you to focus in. .
Find a Focused Environment - You don’t have to be Marie Kondo to know that a chaotic environment makes it difficult to have a calm, focused mind.
First, consider your physical environment. Designating a specific spot, whether it’s just a certain chair in your kitchen or an often empty conference room at work, for important tasks can help signal to your brain that it’s time to focus. And don’t forget about noises like cars honking or kids yelling, which
can trigger your body to release the stress hormone cortisol, making it even more difficult to focus.
Consider CBD - CBD has shown promise in helping
reduce stress and
motor activity, which in turn helps you stay calm and focused instead of wired and fidgety. And in the case of Lucent Botanical mints specifically, we add the terpenes
α Pinene and
β Caryophyllene, which have been shown to increase alertness and reduce anxiety, to our targeted Focus formula.
As is always the case though, it’s important to note that CBD is no “miracle.” CBD alone can’t overcome exhaustion, a highly distracting environment, and all the other factors that make it difficult to focus.
But along with some of the tips and strategies above, we believe that CBD can provide that extra boost of focus that can be the difference between completing an important task and getting out of your seat after only a few minutes.
Come learn more about how our Focus mints can be that extra boost you need.
